Welcome to the 2013 Valero Alamo Bowl Sales and Marketing Coordinator, Jackson Leuschen! The Story City, Iowa, native is excited to be part of a major bowl game, experience the Texas lifestyle and skip out on snow for at least one winter.
Jackson completed his undergrad at Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he majored in Psychology and minored in Business Management. While at Central, Jackson played four years for the Central Dutch football team and worked for the Central Multimedia Relations office, and more specifically the Sports Information Department. After a fall of playing football he would spend the winter and spring working at various athletic contests taking stats, streaming video and helping run events.
Jackson joins the Valero Alamo Bowl following a year of experience as a graduate assistant in the Sports Information Department at the University of South Dakota, where he was responsible for the women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and softball programs while also assisting with sports information duties for all other teams. While working as a graduate assistant, Jackson was able to work toward a Master’s degree in Sport Management, which he will complete while at the Valero Alamo Bowl.
A family trip to San Antonio to visit his sister, Jessi, during the 2011 holiday season led to the Leuschen clan attending that year’s Valero Alamo Bowl between the Baylor Bears and Washington Huskies. After four quarters of exciting football in the great atmosphere provided by the bowl, Jackson set a goal of returning to work in San Antonio.
Outside of the office Jackson enjoys making the most of his time in San Antonio with his fellow interns, and they have been doing their best to take in all the sights and sounds the city has to offer! He created the first ever #InternDateNight, which captivated the office, has made great use of the line, “I’m new to San Antonio”, and has even learned to take the husk off a tamale before eating it.
Aside from seeking out the hot spots, Jackson likes to try to keep up with the latest on the Iowa State Cyclones and the Michigan Wolverines and is trying to catch up to Kate and Zach on Game of Thrones.
