A real Texas treasure

Way back on August 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold and so good that with one bite, customers would say, “What a burger!” He succeeded on both accounts and turned that one little burger stand into a legend loved throughout Texas and the South.

Whataburger moved its headquarters from Corpus Christi to San Antonio in 2009 and is very proud to call the Alamo City home. Today we enjoy serving customers at our more than 750 restaurants across 10 states, while remaining a family-owned company and continuing a strong commitment to quality, to our customers, and to the communities we serve.

In 2001, the 77th Texas Legislature recognized Whataburger as a Texas treasure. Just recently, the San Antonio Express-News selected Whataburger as a Top Workplace for 2013. We’re grateful to our customers and our employees, who we call Family Members, for their

generous support to make that kind of recognition possible.

There is a lot of history in Whataburger’s growth over the past 63 years, and we look forward to serving our customers in San Antonio and across our service area for another 63 years.
