Valero Alamo Bowl and San Antonio Pop Warner Team Up to Host Food Drive for San Antonio Food Bank

During the month of September, the San Antonio Food Bank will launch its SA Goes Orange campaign to create awareness about hunger in our community and assist the more than 230,000 people in Southwest Texas who rely on their services.

Organizations throughout San Antonio can take part in the campaign in a variety of ways, including hosting a food drive.  The Valero Alamo Bowl is partnering with San Antonio Pop Warner, a youth football league, to collect non-perishable food on Saturday, Sept. 18 at game sites throughout the city.

“This is a great opportunity for our young players to be a part of something more than the team they are on, something they get to see and hear about on radio and television, while creating a lasting impact on our community,” San Antonio Pop Warner Commissioner Tom Salas said.

Valero Alamo Bowl staff and volunteers will be at 10 Pop Warner game sites throughout San Antonio to collect food donated by players and their families (game locations and times listed below).

The teams at the site that collect the most food will be featured on the San Antonio Food Bank and Valero Alamo Bowl websites as well as receive kids meal cards courtesy of Chipotle.

In addition, the Valero Alamo Bowl donated over $2,000 worth of football gear to San Antonio Pop Warner and will offer other fundraising opportunities as well.

“The Valero Alamo Bowl is truly excited to continue to expand our involvement with youth football in the San Antonio,” Valero Alamo Bowl President and CEO Derrick Fox said, “Pop Warner is one of the most respected youth football organizations in the country and we look forward to working with all the San Antonio Pop Warner teams to help grow youth football.  Youth sports are a great way to teach children about leadership, teamwork and community.”

If you are a Valero Alamo Bowl volunteer and would like to help out with the Sept. 18 food drive event, please contact Kaitlin Bates at kaitlinb@alamobowl.com or (210) 704-6397.
