This year 30 graduating high school seniors will receive a Valero Alamo Bowl Scholarship. With their selection, the program will have awarded over 350 winners more than $1 million since 2000.
Any graduating high school senior in Bexar County interested in applying can find scholarship information in the Bexar County Scholarship Clearing House book available in their school’s guidance office. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 2. However, each school has different internal deadlines, so students should check with their school’s guidance counselor.
The scholarships (administered through the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, a scholarship clearinghouse) are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, teacher recommendations, involvement in extracurricular activities and honors as well as a personal narrative.
The recipients of this year’s scholarships will be chosen the end of November and then recognized at a luncheon on Wednesday, December 12 courtesy of Fleming’s Steakhouse and again during the first quarter of the 20th Annual Valero Alamo Bowl on Saturday, December 29. Their families will also attend the game courtesy of Frost.
