Since the start of the pandemic, the Valero Alamo Bowl has subscribed to the belief that the longer you wait, the more information you have to make the best decisions possible.
With the college football season scheduled to start next month, we now have updates from our two partner conferences.
The Big 12 Conference is planning to start their 2020 college football season with non-conference games on September 12 followed by their normal 9 game conference schedule two weeks later. The Pac-12 Conference has opted out of the Fall season and hopes to play in the Spring.
While we are planning to host the 2020 Valero Alamo Bowl in our normal late December time frame, there is still a lot of uncertainty around our game date and the potential participants.
Our hope is the dramatic improvement in the COVID-19 curve in San Antonio continues and is duplicated across the nation so college campuses can safely welcome back students and host games.
That will allow us to better strategize with both conferences, ESPN and city leadership on the best road forward. If the circumstances allow for a post-season this year, the Valero Alamo Bowl’s long track record of unforgettable games and top TV viewership will position us well to host a game.
Our organization and city pride ourselves on our adaptability, creativity and ability to work together as a team. In a year unlike any another, we stand ready and eager to utilize the 2020 Valero Alamo Bowl as a celebration of our city that generates national attention and a much-needed economic boost.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing more details soon. Be well.
