Valero Alamo Bowl staffers don’t feel the emotional whirlwind of a parent dropping of their child off at college.
However, we do get to share in the excitement for a special group of 75 recent graduates of San Antonio high schools. These students were each selected as Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholars.
They will split $562,500 in scholarship awards from the Bowl meaning they each receive $7,500 to attend the college of their choice.
So where are they going?
In a typical year, the 75 winners go to a wide range of 40+ schools across the country. As we know, the impact of COVID-19 has made 2020 a year unlike any other and prompted many winners to stay closer to home.
The most popular choice of our winners is the 2019 Valero Alamo Bowl Champion, the University of Texas. A record 15 winners are heading to Austin this month followed by 9 students enrolling at Texas A&M-College Station.
