Employee Spotlight: Aaron Valadez

A San Antonio native, Aaron joins the team after graduating from UTSA in 2021 with an undergraduate degree in Sports Management and is currently a student in University of Texas’ Sports Management graduate program. Aaron is excited to be apart of the Valero Alamo Bowl as this year’s Ticket Sales & Marketing Coordinator.

What is your favorite thing about living in San Antonio?

“Having spent most of my life here in San Antonio, I would say that my favorite thing about living here is the excitement and energy that surrounds the city’s sports scene. The people who live here love our sports teams and there is always something to look forward to, whether it is a Spurs game or the Valero Alamo Bowl. The city takes pride in its sporting events, which no doubt played a factor in why I decided to get into this line of work in the first place. But I cannot forget to mention the food, San Antonio is home to some of the best Tex-Mex in the world and has plenty to offer from a culinary standpoint. That gives me a valid reason to go out and harshly judge other people’s cooking.

What path led you to this job?

I am currently enrolled in the Sport Management master’s program at the University of Texas at Austin, and during my second semester of graduate school is when the opportunity to join the Valero Alamo Bowl for the 2023 season presented itself. Dr. Matthew Bowers emailed us with the opportunity to submit resumes to the bowl for multiple positions, to which I did, in hopes of gaining my first experience working in the sports industry. After going through the interview process, I was fortunate enough to land the ticket sales and marketing coordinator position for this season. The experience has been great and I have been lucky to learn so much from a team that is full of people who really know what it takes to be effective in their roles.

What has been your favorite part about working for the Valero Alamo Bowl?

My favorite part about working for the Valero Alamo Bowl is the opportunity to be a part of the team that gets to create a memorable experience for fans. I love working with this team because it is full of dedicated and passionate individuals who are committed to putting on a first-class event. I’m also looking forward to the opportunity to highlight the city of San Antonio to the world throughout bowl week with our events. This gives the out-of-town fans a chance to learn more about San Antonio’s culture and heritage.

What do you like about working in the ticketing sales and service world?

Seeing our efforts payoff is the thing I enjoy the most from working ticket sales. I enjoy working with Bryan and Luke, and they have helped me learn so much about everything that goes into selling tickets to a successful bowl game and forming strategic partnerships. However, the thing I am looking forward to the most is seeing the stadium packed on game day. Seeing that stadium will just be a reminder of the hard work that we have put in throughout the year has paid off and we were able to deliver an exciting product that will hopefully get fans to continue to come back to the bowl.
