Over the next four newsletters, we will introduce you to one of our four interns for this season. Today we start with our Ticket Sales & Marketing Intern, Ray Silva.
Q: Where are you from?
Ray: I’m from the countdown city (you know…the 2-1-0), home to the San Antonio Spurs, and Tejano music: San Antonio, Texas!
Q: What is your Alma Mater? What is your degree in?
Ray: I will be graduating this December from the College of Education at Texas State University. My degree will be in Public Health & Wellness.
Q: What will you be responsible for while at the Valero Alamo Bowl?
Ray: I’ll be responsible for our ticket sales and marketing efforts—if you want tickets, call me!
Q: What part of this experience are you most excited about?
Ray: I’m most excited about the opportunity to host the Shamrock Series when Notre Dame comes into town with those sick jerseys! Have you seen them yet? I really like how the Notre Dame athletic department is using the jerseys to reflect the military and patriotic background of the university. What better place to do that then in “Military City USA,” while playing the Army Black Knights. Make sure to take advantage of the two-game package opportunity and come to the Shamrock Series and Valero Alamo Bowl to be a part of the electrifying atmosphere these games will bring!
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Ray: In five years I see myself working for an organization that helps uplift its community. I’m not sure what type of job that would be, but if I can combine that with sports that would be a dream job.
Q: What advice do you have to perspective students who may want to pursue a career in Ticket Sales?
Ray: I’m still learning, but I feel like the most important thing is to be able to work well with others, not be afraid to make mistakes, and ask questions! It also helps to get involved with the athletic department on your campus, whether it be volunteering or interning. The experience you will gain from your athletic department looks really good on your resume—I’ve worked in the Athletic Office at Texas State for almost two years as an undergrad.
