2024 Bowl Delivers #2 All-Time Best Impact

The 2024 Valero Alamo Bowl featuring #17 BYU and #23 Colorado generated a total economic impact of $59 million for San Antonio and brought 44,909 visitors to town, according to a report conducted by Economic Analytics Consulting, LLC.

The impact is the second highest total in the event’s history behind the $73.7 million impact from the 2007 Valero Alamo Bowl between Texas A&M and Penn State.

The 2024 report also indicated an average length of stay of 2.6 days with 30.5% of the out-of-state guests making their first visit to San Antonio.

Other highlights from the 2024 event include:

  • Most watched Valero Alamo Bowl in history with 8 million viewers
  • Top non-CFP/NY6 viewership since the 2019-20 Citrus Bowl between Michigan and Alabama
  • 12th sellout and best attended non-CFP game with a capacity crowd of 64,261
  • 9th Top 25 matchup in the 11 years of the CFP era
  • A record-breaking scholarship total of $1.245 million split between 168 students representing every high school and four year university in the San Antonio area
  • #1 ranking of all bowl games in local scholarship giving

For the final year of its current conference agreements, the Valero Alamo Bowl will again feature a matchup between the first choice from the following two 12-team pools after the College Football Playoff field is selected:

  • Big 12 Conference Pool – Baylor, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.
  • Pac-12/Former Pac-12 Pool – Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington, and Washington State.

Including the record-setting 2024 Valero Alamo Bowl, the organization has produced 32 bowl games and served as the local host for 11 neutral site games. The 32 Valero Alamo Bowl games have combined to deliver nearly $1.2 billion in total economic impact to San Antonio, 173 million viewers on ESPN/ABC, 1.87 million attendees to the Alamodome, and $174+ million to higher education through team payouts ($162+ million) and local scholarships ($12+ million).
