For its 32nd annual game, the Valero Alamo Bowl will award $1,237,500 million split between 168 San Antonio high school and college students via two programs.
This amount is expected to be the largest local scholarship total in Valero Alamo Bowl history and #1 in local giving among all bowl games.
On December 17 at the H-E-B Scholarship Awards Luncheon, at Security Service Event Center, 97 high school winners representing 77 San Antonio area public and private schools shared in $727,500 in Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete scholarships.
The scholarships were awarded based on academic achievement, teacher recommendations, involvement in extracurricular activities, and varsity sports as well as honors received and a personal narrative.
The Bowl’s college program is called the Valero Alamo Bowl Community Partners scholarship and is funded by the Valero Alamo Bowl and matching programs at all six of San Antonio’s four-year universities. Last August, 71 deserving college students were chosen to share $510,000 in awards.
Inclusive of this year’s totals, 1,918 scholarship winners have split $12 million in awards from the Valero Alamo Bowl.

Advanced Learning Academy, Noah Ruiz – Noah is a defensive player of the year and team captain for his high school’s water polo and swim teams where he set a school record. He also competed in the Texas Off-Road Racing Championship and is a writer for the school newspaper.
Alamo Heights High School, Santiago Berenguer – Santiago is a four-year participant on Alamo Heights Varsity Cross Country team and was captain his junior and senior year. He was also on the varsity soccer team for two years, winning the Bi-District Championship and earning All-District honorable mention.
Antonian College Prep, Tyler Burgamy – Tyler is a two-year varsity player for his high school’s tennis team and helped his team win the state championship in 2022. He is the lead play-by-play commentator for his school’s sports media club and wants to pursue a degree in journalism focusing on sports broadcasting.
Atonement Catholic Academy, Dominic Le – Dominic is the captain of the varsity soccer team and participates in tennis and the debate club. He is a member of the House Council and the National Honor Society.
Brackenridge High School, Adalia Duckworth – Adalia is captain of the Brackenridge swim team, where she has earned 2nd team all-district and all-academic awards. She is also captain of the softball team and a member of the National Honor Society.
Brackenridge High School, Joey Garza – Joey is a three-year member of the Brackenridge tennis team where he has served as captain and co-captain. He is also the bass section leader of the school choir and a member in the National Honor Society.
Brackenridge High School, Lawrence Kitt – Lawrence is a four-year track and football player for Brackenridge High School. He is also a trumpet player for the Mariachi team and a participant in the early college program.
Brandeis High School, Ashlyn Shields – Ashlyn competes in varsity cross country and track and is a member of the Academic Decathlon team and Science Bowl.
Brandeis High School, Cameron Hughes – Cameron is a varsity athlete in swim and water polo and serves as vice president of both the National Honor Society and Helping the Homeless Club. In addition, as an intern with Elbow Room, a tiny home business, she developed a sustainability package for their tiny homes to promote eco-friendly living.
Brennan High School, Aiden Castillo – Aiden is a varsity tennis player and an active member of the Brennan Young Life group. He is also involved in the Cyber Patriots Club, National Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society.
Boerne High School, Kinsley Sawyer – Kinsley is a three-sport athlete at Boerne High School, participating on the varsity soccer, volleyball, and track teams. She has earned academic all-district honors and is a nominee for the girls 4-A UIL State All-Tournament team.
Burbank High School, Ryan Vasquez – Ryan is team captain and four-year member of the Burbank High School football team. He is a KENS5 All Star Athlete and also a 2023 district champion. Ryan also participates on the wrestling and track teams at Burbank.
Byron P. Steele High School, Madison Gastol – Madison is a three-year varsity swim captain and four-year class president. She plans to attend law school and get her master’s in political science.
Canyon High School, Emelia Storey – Emelia is a varsity volleyball and basketball player for Canyon High School, earning Academic All-District awards. She is a member of the National Honor Society and intends to study aerospace engineering or archeology in college.
Canyon Lake High School, Sophia Balderas – Sofia is a varsity letterman in soccer, golf and orchestra. She is a regional qualifier in UIL History and a National Honor Society member.
CAST Tech High School, Julian Hall – Julian is a starting defender for the varsity soccer team and a member on the track team. He is the co-founder of the robotics club and a four-year member of the student council.
Central Catholic High School, Noah Mata – Noah is captain of the varsity golf team and president of the National Honor Society at Central Catholic. He wishes to attend law school and pursue a degree in public affairs.
Champion High School, Serena Sharma – Serena is the captain of the varsity tennis team and a National Honor Society member. She is also involved in HOSA and has earned recognition as an AP Scholar.
Churchill High School, Audrey Bailey – Audrey is a varsity volleyball player who has earned THSCA First Team Academic All-State, AVCA Best and Brightest awards and a middle school volleyball coach. In addition to her athletic achievements, she is a 3-year member of the National Honor Society and a 2-year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Churchill High School, Aubrey Kellogg – Aubrey is the captain of the varsity cross country team and competes in varsity track. She is also involved in orchestra, National Honor Society, and competes in UIL science and literary criticism.
Churchill High School, Daniel Boarnet – Daniel is a varsity wrestler and competes in cross country. He is also involved in orchestra, the Science UIL team, and is an active member of Boy Scouts of America.
Clark High School, Rachel Nwankwo – Rachel is a varsity athlete in track and volleyball and a member of HOSA. She is also part of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and competes in Science Olympiad.
Clark High School, Katelyn Ogden – Katelyn is the varsity track captain and a member of the Student Athletic Advisory. She is also involved in HOSA, serves as class secretary, and is part of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and French National Honor Society.
Clemens High School, Isabel Meyer – Isabel is a dedicated varsity cheerleader and AFJROTC member who has also participated in soccer and swim. She is a National Honor Society member, active in HOSA, and volunteers at the public library and local animal shelter.
Cole High School, Bryson Stark – Bryson is a varsity athlete in football and basketball and an active member of S2S. He is also student council president, a JROTC member, and competes in UIL journalism and current events.
Cole High School, Deborah Garza – Deborah is a varsity athlete in softball, soccer, and cross country and a member of the Athletic Leadership Council. She is the President of S2S and Spanish Honor Society and belongs to National Honor Society and National English Honor Society.
Davenport High School, Raithe Fox – Raithe is a varsity letterman in tennis and a 1st Lieutenant in JROTC. He is Tenor drum captain on the drumline and a four-year member in the Wind Ensemble Band.
Davenport High School, Ella Van Dusen – Ella is a four-year varsity letterman in swimming earning academic-all district awards, and captain of the varsity water polo team. She is also class president and a four-year member of the varsity choir.
East Central High School, Hollie Helmke – Hollie is captain of the varsity volleyball team and president of the Electrathon team. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society.
Edison High School, Andrew Rosas – Andrew is a varsity cross country runner and varsity basketball player. He hopes to attend Texas A&M University and study business.
Edison High School, Chipper Mayorga – Chipper is the captain of both the varsity softball and varsity basketball teams and serves as class president. She is the captain of her firefighting class and hopes to work in the fire service and become an Arson Detective.
Floresville High School, Grant Hartmann – Grant is a varsity soccer player and president of the student council. He is a UIL Academics Math District Champion and a member of the Bentwood 4 H program.
Fox Tech High School, Miamor Gaitan – Miamor is a four-year letterman with the Fox Tech swim team, a member of the SAISD superintendent advisory council, and president of the Spanish NHS chapter for her campus. She is also an active member of the law program and award-winning mock trial team.
Great Hearts Monte Vista North High School, Sarah Livesay – Sarah is a four-year member and captain of varsity swim team. She hopes to study environmental science and pursue a career in Ecology.
Great Heart Northern Oaks High School, Caden Collins – Caden is team captain of the Varsity Basketball team and a three-time 1st team all-district player. He hopes to study engineering in college.
Harlan High School, McKenna Phillips – McKenna is a letterman on the varsity track, cross country and tennis teams. She is attending Texas A&M to pursue a degree in biology and psychology with the goal of becoming a behavioral neuroscientist.
Harlandale High School, Richard Espinoza – Richard is a four-year football and baseball player for Harlandale High School. He also played on the basketball team and is a National Honor Society member.
Health Careers, Mia Favela – Mia is head captain and three-year letterman on the cross country team and president of the Texas 42 club. She earned top cadet in the Texas Brigades and served as the Bexar County Ambassador in 4H.
Highlands High School, Kynze Reinhard – Kynze is Battalion Commander in JROTC and a member of the softball team. She is president of the National Honor Society and hopes to pursue a career in social work.
Holmes High School, Belen Estrada – Belen is a varsity soccer player earning All-District academic awards and competes in cross country. She is a member of the Holmes High School Mechanics Club, an AVID mentor, and part of the TRIO program.
Holy Cross of San Antonio, Alyssa Rodriguez – Alyssa hopes to pursue a career in education and complete her master’s degree.
Incarnate Word High School, Helen Guajardo – Helen is captain of the varsity volleyball and swim teams at Incarnate Word High School. She is the founder and president of the environmental club and member of the National Honor, National Spanish Honor and National Math Honor Societies.
International School of the Americas, Rachel Sherman – Rachel is a dedicated 12-year Girl Scout and a varsity athlete in soccer, cross country, and track. A member of multiple honor societies and Model United Nations, she aspires to attend law school and make a meaningful impact in the future.
Jefferson High School, Fabian Hernandez – Fabian is the captain of the boy’s varsity soccer team and competes in varsity football, cross country, and track. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and hopes to become an accountant.
Johnson High School, Ethan Pray – Ethan is captain of the varsity tennis team and member of both the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society. He is treasurer of the engineering club and plans to study civil engineering or architecture in college.
John Jay SEA High School, Patrick Amann – Four-year letterman and captain of the swim and water polo teams, Patrick has earned MVP awards in both sports, is a district and area champion in water polo, and a bronze medal winner in the regional competition for swim. He is a regional grand prize winner for the John Jay Science and Engineering science fair team and leader in the robotics club.
Johnson High School, Jennifer Lee – Captain of the varsity tennis team, Jennifer is a three-time district champion, three-time regional qualifier and three-time all-academic district player. Outside of athletics she is a member of the National Honor Society, class vice president and a volunteer at Methodist Hospital.
Johnson High School, Trevor Bordelon – Trevor is a four-year letterman and captain for both the water polo and swim team. Trevor is in the top 1% of his class and is a two-year National Honor Society Member. He wishes to pursue a degree in business.
John Jay High School, Alexa Ramos – Alexa is a four-year letterman and captain of the varsity soccer team. Outside of being a member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, Alexa is a member of AUID, student council and is an all-state award nominee for athletic training.
Judson High School, Kayla Riles – Kayla is a member of the Judson girl’s basketball team and of the National Honor Society. She is historian for the Student Leadership Council and is looking to pursue a degree in psychology.
Kennedy High School, Nathan Casarez – Nathan is a bass guitarist for the jazz and concert band and a varsity athlete in track and football. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and a participant in the criminal justice program.
Keystone School, Ian Prazak – Ian is a varsity tennis player, National Honor Society member, and active participant in the robotics club and science fair. He also founded the Spike Ball Club and wishes to pursue a degree in computer science.
Legacy Educational Excellence High School, Rachelle Barrera – Rachelle is a varsity volleyball player and an active volunteer with organizations like the Assistance League of San Antonio, SNIPSA, and the Food Bank. She is involved in HOSA, Mu Alpha Theta, PAL’s Club, Model UN, and serves as a STEM ambassador.
Lutheran High School, Steven Urban Jr. – Steven is a two-time district champion in soccer and a second-place winner in the science fair. He is also involved in robotics and basketball, earning academic excellence in math, science, foreign language, and social studies.
Lytle High School, Kayzen Lassere – Kayzen is a varsity volleyball player, member of the National Honor Society and an active volunteer. She is a member of 4H, FFA and is a San Antonio Livestock Show Tours student guide.
MacArthur High School, Morgan Gutierrez – Morgan is the varsity volleyball captain, a class officer, and a board member of the Parent Teacher Student Association. An AP Scholar and National Honor Society member, she also serves as a MacTeach student leader.
MacArthur High School, Yamit Saliceti – Yamit is a National Recognition Scholar, National Hispanic Recognition recipient and a member of the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. He is also a soccer player, Boys State delegate, MacTeach mentor, and a church multimedia volunteer.
Madison High School, Kaci Katsuda – Kaci is on the varsity soccer team and captain of the varsity swim team at Madison, as well as a member of the Principal Advisory Board. She is also a team leader for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and a district qualifier for Academic UIL.
Madison High School, Kailee Hildebrand – Kailee is captain of the varsity tennis team and a letterman in volleyball. She is vice president of DECA and a member of the National Honor Society.
Marshall High School, Elizabeth Cleveland – Elizabeth is captain of the varsity volleyball team and a runner on the varsity track team. She is a National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society member and serves on the principal’s cabinet.
Marshall High School, Emily Crist – Emily is a three-year letterman on the varsity tennis team and student body president. She is lead attorney on the mock trial team and member of the principal’s cabinet.
McCollum High School, April Flores – April is a National Honor Society member, class officer, and multi-sport athlete in varsity basketball, varsity volleyball, track, and cross country. She hopes to study criminal justice and become a lawyer.
McCollum High School, Alita Uresti – Alita is a varsity soccer player, active volunteer, class president, and a National Honor Society member. She is planning to study biology with hopes to attend medical school after college.
Medina Valley High School, Gibson Conard – Gibson is a three-time football letterman, two-time track letterman and a Life Scout. He intends to study biotechnology and plans to become a wildlife biologist.
NSITE High School, Ian Leal – Ian is the captain of his esports team and competes in varsity swim, varsity water polo and Business Professionals of America. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and a UIL mathematics competitor.
O’Connor High School, Dominic Mireles – Dominic a varsity soccer player, president of Model UN, and a member of the Science Honor Society. He is also involved in Scholar Athletes Serving Others and serves as a Panther PALS mentor.
O’Connor High School, Jason Chapman – Captain of the varsity tennis team, Jason participates in Academic Decathlon and is a member of both the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. He is a UIL science and mathematics competitor and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and chess club.
Providence Catholic School, Zina Vargas – Zina is a varsity athlete in swimming and bowling and a member of the National Art Honor Society and National Honor Society. She is also part of Mu Alpha Theta and the ecology club.
Randolph High School, Aubrey Milam – Aubrey is the varsity cross country team captain and a varsity track athlete. She is a National Honor Society member and serves as vice president of HOSA.
Reagan High School, Seoyeon Kim – Seoyeon is a varsity athlete in swim and water polo and an active member of the Latin Club. She is part of the National Honor Society and the National and Texas State Junior Classical Leagues.
Reagan High School, Monserrat Spielmann – Montserrat is the swim team captain, a club swimmer, and a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She is also a DECA member and has organized food and toy drives to support her community.
Roosevelt High School, Akane Cavan – Akane is the captain of the varsity volleyball team, senior class president, and a member of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. Akane is also active in the Architecture Club and hopes to pursue a career in product advertising.
Sam Houston High School, Jermaine Tibbs – Jermaine is a varsity athlete in football and track and field and an active member of the drama club. He is planning to pursue a degree in computer science with hopes to become an information security analyst.
San Antonio Christian High School, Holland Russell – Holland is captain of the varsity soccer team, a member of the varsity track team, and serves as a student athletic trainer. Holland is actively involved in Student Council, FCA, and multiple honor societies, including National Honor Society, National Art Society and National Latin Honor Society.
Sidney Lanier High School, Pu Reh – Pu is a member of the National Honor Society and Academic Decathlon, competing in varsity soccer and tennis. Pu is also active in the National Hispanic Institute, HOSA, and traveled this summer to Japan with the Shirane Foundation.
Somerset High School, James Maldonado – James is the team captain for varsity football, basketball, and track and a National Honor Society member. He is active in FFA, the robotics team, the BBQ team, FCA, and volunteers with the Special Olympics.
Smithson Valley High School, Parker Moeller – Parker is a varsity letterman in football and baseball and a member in FCA. He has also earned AP Scholar and National Merit Recognized Scholar awards.
Sotomayor High School, Miguel Guzman – Miguel is a varsity athlete in soccer, football, cross country, and track, as well as a class officer. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.
South San Antonio High School, Elta Hancock – Elta is the head drum major and band president for the marching and concert band. She also serves as National Honor Society historian and is class treasurer in student government.
Southside High School, Juan Palma – Juan is a dedicated member of the marching band and participates in Academic Decathlon. He also competes in various UIL events.
Southwest High School, Mya Luna – Mya is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and National Honor Society, as well as an active participant in FFA. She competes in volleyball and powerlifting and serves on the Student Advisory Committee.
Southwest High School, Jacob Singleton – Jacob competes in track and cross country, participates in HOSA, and holds a CCMA certification. He is an active member of the band, student council, and National Honor Society, as well as the National Technical Honor Society.
Southwest Legacy High School, Ayden Hernandez-Davila – Ayden is the football team captain and a member of Titan Warriors, actively volunteering with the SWISD Punt, Pass, and Kick program. He plans to study mechanical engineering in college.
St. Anthony Catholic High School, Matthew Meyer – Matthew is the captain of the varsity swim team and a member of National Honor Society and Theatre Arts. He also serves as the assistant conductor/director of the liturgical choir and is a student ambassador.
St. Mary’s Hall High School, Calista Kayatta – Calista is a varsity field hockey player and president of Model UN, with membership in the National English, Latin, Greek, and Science Honor Societies. She is also part of Mu Alpha Theta and works as an intern for The Alamo.
Stacey Jr.-Sr. High School, Danielle Yarbrough – Danelle is the captain of the varsity volleyball team and actively involved in HOSA. She also serves on the student council and hopes to become an OB-GYN.
Stevens High School, Logan Cornelius – Logan is captain on the varsity swim team and captain of the water polo team earning goalie of the year two-time 1st team all-district awards. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and orchestra.
Taft High School, Kaylee McCrum – Kaylee is the captain of the varsity soccer team and competes in track and field. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with YMCA soccer.
The Christian School at Castle Hills, Thomas Spencer – Thomas is a varsity athlete in cross country and track, a member in the varsity choir, and is the class chaplain. He is also involved in student council, the National Honor Society, theatre, and has served in global mission trips.
TMI Episcopal, Mara Flores – Mara is the captain of the varsity swim team at TMI Episcopal. She is also a National Hispanic Institute Texas participant, a mayoral appointee to the City of San Antonio Youth Commission, and head columnist in the journalism club.
Travis Early College High School, Maximus Mendez – Maximus is a varsity basketball player and a member of the Panther Fit Club. He also participates in the Computer Science Club, AVID, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Travis Art Club.
Veterans Memorial High School, Janelle Scott – Janelle is the captain of the varsity soccer team and an active member of Army JROTC. She is also part of the National Honor Society and plans to join ROTC in college to pursue a career in military service.
Wagner High School, Janet Blancas – Janet is a National Honor Society member, student council member, and class officer. She also competes in varsity soccer and volleyball.
Wagner High School, Rolando Urbina – Rolando is the varsity cross country captain and a member of the varsity track team. He wants to study engineering and plans to become a biomedical engineer.
Warren High School, Nathan Gonzales – Nathan is captain of the varsity football team and has earned academic MVP awards the past two years. He is also a member of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of National Honor Society.
Young Women’s Leadership Academy, Liliana Rowe – Liliana is a varsity volleyball player and coaches for iPlay Volleyball, while also mentoring for City Kids Adventures. She is involved in Academic Decathlon, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Honor Society.
Young Women’s Leadership Academy, Lyla Arnold – Lyla is the captain of the varsity soccer team and competes in varsity cross country and track. She is also a member of the Science National Honor Society, Audubon Conservation Leaders, and the Voelcker Biomedical Research Program.
Three of the above scholarships are being given in honor of significant Valero Alamo Bowl contributors.
Mckenna Phillips from Harlan High School is the recipient of the Red McCombs Memorial Scholarship. This award is presented in honor of one of the Bowl’s founding partners, Red McCombs for his role in starting the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Jermaine Tibbs from Sam Houston High School is this year’s Bob Brincat Scholarship Award Winner. This scholarship is annually given in honor of 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl Chairman, Bob Brincat, a tireless advocate for the Bowl’s scholarship program who passed away after a courageous fight against lymphoma.
Kaylee McCrum from Taft High School is this year’s John P. “Jack” Rogers Memorial Winner. This scholarship is given in honor of 2004 Valero Alamo Bowl Chairman, Jack Rogers. Jack, who passed away in May 2020, was a tremendous ambassador for the Bowl and served on the board for over 20 years.
