The Valero Alamo Bowl’s 32nd season will officially kick off on Wednesday, August 28 at the PNC Pigskin Preview at the Alamodome.
Football fans, local business leaders and Valero Alamo Bowl scholarship winners will enjoy lunch courtesy of Rudy’s Bar-B-Q and video highlights previewing this year’s college stars and teams. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to hear stories and insight from ESPN college football analyst Kirk Morrison.
A two-time All-American linebacker for San Diego State, Morrison was also a three-time All-Mountain West Conference first-team player and twice recognized as the league’s top defensive player. In the 2005 Draft, the Oakland Raiders selected him with the 78th overall pick. He led the team in tackles his first four years including 2008 and 2009 when he ranked #5 and #6 in the NFL, respectively.
Morrison joined ESPN in 2017 and is an analyst on ESPN and ABC’s college football coverage. He is also the pre- and post-game radio host of the Los Angeles Rams on ESPNLA and is a regular on Sirius NFL Radio.
Valero Alamo Bowl President/CEO Derrick Fox will also be available before the luncheon and speak during the panel about the Valero Alamo Bowl’s selection rights for 2024 and 2025 and the future of the event.
Before and after the luncheon, guests will put their field goal kicking to the test, show off their passing accuracy in a game of Fowling, compete in Giant Yard Pong, and more exciting contests spread across the Alamodome turf to win prizes.
BENEFICIARY:
Proceeds from Valero Alamo Bowl events benefit two scholarship programs. Through the Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship, at least one $7,500 scholarship winner will be selected from every participating San Antonio area public school and private school. In 2023, there were 94 winners representing 67 different area high schools.
The Valero Alamo Bowl Community Partners Scholarship is funded by the Bowl and matching programs at all six of San Antonio’s four-year universities (University of the Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Mary’s University, Texas A&M–San Antonio, Trinity University and UTSA). The scholarship total and number of winners will be announced at the luncheon with these rising college juniors and seniors in attendance.
For the 2024-25 school year, the Valero Alamo Bowl and its partners will collectively award over $1.2 million split between students representing every participating San Antonio area high school and four-year university.
