Week 8 Bowl Projections

Pac-12

It feels like it’s being said after every week, but it was another huge weekend out west in the Pac-12 highlighted by matchup of titans as #8 Oregon went up to Seattle and battled to a close 36-33 loss to the #7 Washington Huskies.

Last year’s Valero Alamo Bowl Offensive MVP Michael Penix Jr. continues to make his case as a legitimate Heisman frontrunner, passing for 302 yards and four touchdowns in the statement win for Washington. USC earned their first loss of the season at home against Notre Dame, who looked determined to bounce back after losing to Louisville the prior week. Oregon State and Utah both looked dominant in their wins and continue to stay in the top 20. The Beavers, along with USC, is a popular media pick to be the Pac-12 representative in the Valero Alamo Bowl with Utah certain to get in the mix if they beat USC on the road this weekend.

Big 12

Despite its top two teams having a bye this week, the Big 12 still managed to kick off Week 7 with a bang. The Houston Cougars earned their first conference win ever in dramatic fashion, beating West Virginia with a Hail Mary as time expired to give the Cougars the 41-39 win at home. Oklahoma State running Back Ollie Gordon II proved to be too much for the #23 Kansas Jayhawks, having 169 yards and a touchdown on the ground and six receptions for 116 yards and another touchdown in a 39-32 at home. Defending conference champions Kansas State relied on the legs of true freshman quarterback Avery Johnson. Johnson, rushed for five touchdowns as the Wildcats took down the Texas Tech 38-21 in Lubbock.
